Conservation Hawks
We are a group of passionate hunters & anglers devoted to protecting our sporting heritage and passing on a healthy natural world to our kids and grandkids. Our motto says it all: Hunters & Anglers Defending Our Future.
What makes us different? At Conservation Hawks, our job is to identify and address the single biggest threat to our hunting & fishing. That’s why we focus all our time & energy on the most important issue for sportsmen: Climate Change.
Why Climate Change? Because serious, human-caused climate impacts like higher temperatures, stronger storms, more extreme droughts, changing precipitation patterns, unprecedented insect infestations, dying forests, reduced mountain snowpacks, an increase in invasive species, more ticks & mosquitoes, dying coral reefs, shifting waterfowl and big game migration patterns, an increase in extreme precipitation and flooding, toxic algae blooms, and ocean acidification are bad for hunters & anglers all over America.
Be sure to watch our PSAs and short climate films for anglers & hunters.
Our most recent climate film, IN THE HEART OF THE ROCKIES, aired three times on the Sportsman Channel. The film focuses on the northern Rocky Mountains, from Yellowstone north towards Glacier National Park. This incredible landscape is known far & wide for its mountains, rivers, wildlife and amazing natural beauty. The film showcases this spectacular area through the eyes of sportsmen both young and old, and illustrates how climate change is altering landscapes and changing the character of the northern Rockies. The exceptional cast includes elk hunter Craig Mathews, upland bird hunters Dave Perkins, Nancy Mackinnon and Phoebe Bean, ice fisherman Hal Herring, Hal’s son Harold and daughter Carol Ann, fly fishers Hilary Hutcheson and her daughters Ella and Delaney, as well Todd Tanner and his son Kian.
Our first Conservation Hawks film, COLD WATERS, was part of the 2015 Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T). The film looks at trout fishing and climate change, and features Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies, Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia, Steve Hemkens of Orvis, pro photographer Tim Romano and CH president Todd Tanner. To learn more, please visit our COLD WATERS page.
Our film CHROME was part of the 2016 Fly Fishing Film Tour. You can watch the entire 11 minute film below. CHROME looks at the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification on anadromous fish like steelhead & salmon. The film features Tom Rosenbauer of Orvis, Dylan Tomine of Patagonia, Kate Taylor of Frigate Travel, Hannah Belford of Damdochax River Lodge, pro photographer Tim Romano and CH president Todd Tanner. To learn more, please visit our CHROME page.
Our film CONVERGENCE explores fishing and climate change through the eyes of some truly incredible anglers, including Hilary Hutcheson, Travis Swartz, Perk Perkins, Els Van Woert and Simon Perkins. CONVERGENCE toured the U.S. with the Fly Fishing Film Tour. You can watch the film below or visit our ColdWaters.org website for more information.
We also engage hunters & anglers through print and electronic media. Our climate message has appeared everywhere from American Angler and Field & Stream to Forbes, Outside, and National Geographic. For a more comprehensive look at our climate outreach efforts, check out our CH in the Media page.
